hiv and aids
A deadly virus of epidemic proportion rapidly spreads throughout theworld. Since 1984, nearly fifty million people have been infected in America alone. There is no cure for this virus and drugs alone wont stop it from attacking your immunesystem. Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, or AIDS, has infected millions ofpeople and sadly many of them being young children and teenagers. When the body is infected with HIV, which AIDS develops from, it triesto make antibodies to fight off the virus. Testing for HIV includes looking for theseanitbodies, when they are found an person is considered “HIV positive”. When a personis infected with HIV it may lay dormant in their system for years. As the diseasedevelops, its slowly and surely wears down the immune system. The immune systemcannot fight off the virius’s and the disease that the body can usually make antibodies for. These types of infection are known as opportunistic diseases. These can cause lifethreatening situations that are serious and may lead to dealth. When AIDS weakens the immune system the person infected has a higherrate of getting sick. They do not have the ability to fight off the bacteria and virus that
AIDS is soon going to be the leading killer of thepeople. It is thought that a that a special kind of Chimpanzee contratecd the virus. If the infected person does not take care of himself, they maycontract the AIDS virus earlier than usual. The virus is believed to be first contracted by non-humanprimates. Blood has the highest content ofthe virus, followed by semen, vaginal fluid, and finally breast milk. The HIV virus is carried through blood, semen, vaginalfluid, and breast milk. If the perosn tested HIV negative, then that meansthat they have not contracted the HIV virus. The person infectedmay have no idea that he or she is infected until the HIV virus turns in AIDS. This test is notreconmended for people just doing a testing to see if you contractd the HIV virus, because it is very costly. Another type of test for HIV is the Viral Load test. Symtoms of HIV and AIDS are hard to recongize. This also means that if a person is reallyhealthy, keeps a balanced diet and exercises reguarly, then he or she may not get AIDSuntil later on in life. Testing HIV positive does notmean that the person will die, nor does the person have AIDS yet. This test is lookin for antibodies of the HIV virus.
