HIV/AIDS
In Romania, there are currently 5.629 HIV/AIDS infected children, aged between 0-18 years, the main means of transmitting the disease being nosocomial infection (through infected blood) – 50.7%. In Bucharest, the project is addressed to the pupils from elementary schools, VIIth and VIIth grades, and aims to:
- convey correct information on sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS;
- eliminate the prejudices related to HIV positive persons;
- adopt a sexual behavior, which should not endanger their or other people’s health;
During the informative sessions carried out in schools and high-schools,
- 7.500 pupils aged between 12-19 years received information on sexually transmitted diseases;
- 5.000 youngsters received information during various activities: street campaigns, the Educational Fair – IIIrd edition, Anti-AIDS Day;
- 300 volunteers were trained;
- 200 counsellors responsabile with educational activities in schools were trained.
