This shows that Sexually Transmitted Infections increase the chances of getting HIV. In Gauteng the prevalence rate of HIV amongst pregnant women was 29.8% in 2001. This figure has come from a Department of Health study, started in 1990, which tests pregnant women attending public sector antenatal clinics for the first time
