Integrated management of adolescent and adult illness /Integrated management of childhood illness

Rapid scaling up of ART will require a profound change in the way that HIV/AIDS services are delivered. HIV/AIDS services must be integrated into the public health system—in many cases, down to primary health care facilities with limited resources—in order to increase access to patients and communities. WHO supports these efforts with generic training materials, technical assistance to countries and regions to adapt such materials into own contexts, provision of training of trainers (TOT), and post-training evaluation and monitoring.

WHO training materials for HIV/AIDS service delivery are based on IMAI (Integrated Management of Adult Illness). IMAI is a health care strategy that addresses the overall health of the patient by supporting a shift from an exclusively acute care model to a chronic care model that includes ART and prevention. IMAI also strengthens health systems by providing tools for patient monitoring, referral and back-referral to district hospitals, clinical team building, clinical mentoring, and district planning.
