HIV prevention in breast milk

HIV prevention in breast milk

HIV infection can be prevented in transmission from mother to child by breastfeeding as breast milk provides immunity to the child to protect them against developing AIDS. Supplemental baby food has no protective properties. Women are more likely to contract HIV, especially with a concurrent illness that weakens the immune system, particularly sexually transmitted diseases including gonorrhea, herpes and syphilis.
