Women face greater hardships with AIDS

The incidence of HIV/AIDS in women has increased since the earlier presentation of the disease, with the majority of new cases in women under 29 years of age. Reasons for the increase are believed to be a combination of greater intravenous drug use, unprotected sex, and migration of infected people. People are coming from countries where HIV is endemic, in search of employment and acceptance, but are afraid of being tested, and women remain reluctant to insist that their partner wear protection during intercourse.
