Drug use and Aids / HIV

Because blood is introduced at every intravenous injection, there is a risk of infection by the virus if the drug containing syringe is shared by different people, and can be extremely infectious, since the virus is delivered directly into the blood stream.

Recreational drug use

Intravenous recreational drug use and Aids are inter-related, since the infection can easily be passed on from one user to the next.

Not only does sharing a syringe and needle increase your risk of contacting Aids and HIV, but also any blood-borne disease and infection, such as Hepatitis etc.

Street vendors of "sterile syringes" cannot be trusted - if you have are addicted to intravenous drugs, and require to use a syringe, buy your properly sealed and sterile syringes from a reputable source, such as a pharmacy / drugstore, and make sure that they are still sealed in their sterile wrapping.

Any other paraphernalia used in drug taking, such as spoons, cotton wool or filters, water, etc can also contribute to spreading the virus infections.
