aids

Aids is known and feared around the world. Due to the factthat it has no known cure and that its results are deadly, people tend to be extra cautious in protecting themselvesagainst it. Many are ignorant and believe they are susceptibleto contracting the virus through casual contact with aninfected individual. This is not true however; thetransmission of HIV does not exist through casual contact as itdoes through the transfer of bodily fluids. Located in the envelope surrounding HIV is a protein calledGlycoprotein. This protein enables the virus to attach to a

Once inside the cell, the retrovirus must copy itsgenetic information and encode it into the nucleus of the host. . The virus cannot exist outside of thehuman body and therefore may not be transmitted throughtouching or even kissing an infected person. It follows then that such sights as the skin and the digestivetract are unable to host HIV. Since the retrovirus is unableto reproduce outside of the human body, it does not maintainits infectiousness and may not be transmitted through casualcontact. The white blood cells inside the human body are ideal inexecuting this process and are in-fact the only possible sightfor reproduction to take place. Casual contact while at work, play or even in a food-service environment is thereforeperfectly safe. Another rapidly increasingmethod of transmission is through unprotected sex withinfected partners. Other fluids such as saliva and breast milkalso contain traces of the virus however their concentrationsare low and therefore are not as dangerous. A person may become HIV positive if their fluids areexchanged with fluids containing the virus. Preventing thespread of this deadly virus is not through limiting physicalcontact but through the promotion of sexual awareness andneedle exchanges. CD4 is found on most white bloodcells and is not found on any other cells in the human body. In order to replicate, HIV must bind and enter into a hostcell. Exposure tocontaminated cells in blood through the use of used needles isa very common way HIV is acquired. Only then may the HIV reproduce to bud newly formed viruses.
