Connect'ing pharma companies to HIV/AIDS programmes

Project Connect is an USAID supported programme involved in building Public Private Partnership models for HIV/AIDS and TB. Atul Kapoor, Project Director – Connect, who leads the overall strategy development, programme design and coordination for the Project, reviews the partnerships forged with pharma companies in various key areas

Population Services International (PSI) is a not-for-profit public health organisation headquartered in Washington DC. It has operations in over 60 countries and works in the public health areas of reproductive and child health, family planning, malaria, safe water, HIV and TB.

PSI registered as a non profit in India in 1988 and has programmes focusing on maternal and child health, family planning, safe water, HIV and TB. PSI with financial support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is implementing a five year programme titled “Connect’ which focuses on HIV and TB. The key partners of this programme are Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and YR Gaitonde Centre for AIDS Research and Education (YRG CARE). This programme commenced in 2006 and focuses on the state of Karnataka, nine districts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and the cities of Mumbai, Vashi, Chennai and Tuticorin.
