Test results coming in after Bundaberg dental scare

In the wake of the Bundaberg dental health scare, 22 of the 33 patients tested have returned negative results to blood born diseases.

Queensland Health is waiting on the results of the other 11 patients.

The department has defended its handling of the issue after some equipment was not properly sterilised and then used on other patients.

District CEO for Sunshine Coast Wide Bay health service Kevin Hegarty says it has been their message all along that those 33 patients could have either passed on an infection or been infected by instruments.

"But as far as we're concerned, the advice that we put together overnight on Friday to be used when the contact was commenced with those 33 early Saturday morning has been consistent all along," he said.
