Fill The Syringe With Clean Water

Fill The Syringe With Clean Water

The first step is to flush any remaining blood and drug from the syringe. This will decrease the number of HIV or Hepatitis C viral particles remaining in the syringe. Fill the syringe with the clean water and squirt out, discarding the water afterward. Repeat several times until no visible blood is present.

Important Tip

  • shake or tap the syringe to dislodge viral particles from the sides of the syringe
  • only use clean tap water or bottled water
  • do not reuse water and do not share water with anyone else
  • when squirting out the syringe, never direct toward another person
