Answer:
There are two basic types of HIV vaccines currently being researched.

  • Preventative Vaccines - These vaccines are to be given to HIV negative individuals to prevent HIV Infection.

  • Therapeutic Vaccines - These vaccines are to be given to people who are already HIV infected in order to improve immune system function.

Important Fact!
Keep in mind that currently there are no HIV vaccines approved for use. Considerable research and clinical trials are necessary before any safe and effective vaccine is ready for the general population.
