Acrobat to face court in HIV sex case

A 31-year-old circus acrobat is due to face Southport Magistrates Court this morning accused of knowingly spreading HIV to a sexual partner.

Queensland police have charged Godfrey Zaburoni with grievous bodily harm and intending to cause grievous bodily harm or transmit serious disease, after a complaint from a woman who has tested positive to HIV.

Police extradited the African-born acrobat from Sydney to the Gold Coast yesterday afternoon.

Police say Zaburoni has given authorities information about 12 women from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria with whom he has had unprotected sex.

But authorities have been unable to locate 11 of them.

Queensland Health is urging anyone who may have had sex with the 31-year-old to undergo an HIV test.
