Acrobat held over HIV claim

Zaburoni was remanded in custody to reappear via a video link next month. (Queensland Police)

A 32-year-old circus acrobat accused of deliberately infecting a woman with HIV has appeared in a court on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Godfrey Zaburoni was charged with grievous bodily harm and intent to cause grievous bodily harm or transmit serious disease, after a complaint from a woman who tested positive to HIV.

He was extradited from Sydney yesterday.

Zimbabwean-born Zaburoni appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court this morning and was remanded in custody to reappear via a video link next month.

There was no application for bail and the magistrate suppressed the complainant's name.

Police say Zaburoni has given them information about 12 women from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria with whom he has had unprotected sex.

But authorities have been unable to locate 11 of them.

Queensland Health is urging anyone who may have had sex with the 31-year-old to undergo an HIV test.
