embracing people living with HIV/AIDS

Loving and embracing people living with HIV/AIDS in the black community was the major theme during a banquet held in east Gainesville to celebrate the lives of people who are living with the diesease and those who have already died.

The World AIDS Day Banquet held last Saturday night at the Eastside Recreation Center featured residents from the community who talked about their experiences with the disease and an official from the Alachua County Health Department who talked about the past, present and future of HIV/AIDS।

Dr. Ruby Davenport, assistant pastor of Faith Tabernacle of Praise Missionary Baptist Church in southeast Gainesville, served as the mistress of ceremony.

She commented often about how churches need to play a bigger role in the fight against the deadly disease that is attacking the black community at an extremely disproportionate rate than other communities.

After the junior praise team from Faith Tabernacle sang “Have Your Way Lord” to conclude the praise and worship part of the banquet, Davenport said the “song is letting the Lord know he is welcome in our hearts.”
