Luke's LifeWorks is a Stamford-based, nonprofit organization providing learning and work-related opportunities, housing and support services to people overcoming homelessness, as well as support to families and single adults living with HIV/AIDS and people recovering from mental illness, according to its web site, www.stlukeslifeworks.org.
"Each year, thousands of children in Fairfield County miss out on the holiday experience that many of us take for granted, and for families affected by HIV and AIDS, this time of year can be even more challenging," said Povich, who is part of the NBC Universal stable in the SMC that includes shows by Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos. "Thanks to the great work St. Luke's does in its community, 2,500 underprivileged kids will have toys and gifts to open with their families this year. In my opinion, there is no better way to celebrate the holidays than to be a part of a program like this one."
Takeia McAlister, a consultant who works for many non-profits across Fairfield County, is the holiday collections manager for St. Luke's LifeWorks, located at 141 Franklin St.
