Half of new HIV cases in heterosexuals

Half of new HIV cases in heterosexuals

The AIDS Council in South Australia says more heterosexual people are contracting HIV.

It says Health Department figures show 52 cases were diagnosed in SA last year.

Shane Dinnison from the AIDS Council says half of those people identified as heterosexual.

"What we're increasingly seeing is that people who are having contact with people from overseas or they're travelling overseas or they've got a partner that comes from a country where there's a high prevalence of HIV are making up some of those new numbers in heterosexual transmission," he said.
