Man jailed for bashing death of HIV-positive man

A man who bashed a HIV-positive club patron to death in Sydney has been jailed for at least 11 years.

Paul Armstrong was found guilty of the murder of Filipe Flores, 27, whose body was found at Woolloomooloo in 1991.

The Supreme Court heard the men were regular patrons at the Exchange Hotel and other bars and clubs in Oxford Street, Darlinghurst.

The court heard Armstrong attacked the younger man after earlier having sex with him in the Exchange Hotel.

In sentencing Armstrong the judge said no weapon was used but Mr Flores had received a savage and sustained beating.
